We do things differently

Region

We plant primarily in the Baltic States, and more specifically in Lithuania, for several good reasons: Lithuania is within the EU, and a large portion of the workforce in the forestry industry has been trained by Swedish personnel, who are at the forefront of the field.

While similar operations in Africa have severe problems in several areas, the forest planting operations that Plantmore run are more in line with the Swedish model.

In Africa, planted trees are cut down to become firewood, grazed by livestock, or burned as part of ‘slash-and-burn farming’ to create arable land. In some cases the forests that are planted are even established at the expense of local inhabitants, who are sometimes even driven away.

The climate in Lithuania makes planting there attractive, as the land has not suffered droughts in recent years to the same extent as many other parts of the world.

Ownership

We or our partners own the land, which creates a very clear incentive and interest in managing the project properly.

The trees have a greater impact as they grow, and so planting is really a relatively small part of the work. The real difference occurs when the trees are cared for and allowed to thrive.
In this respect, we have a strong and vested interest in ensuring that the forest is well taken care of and protected, by conducting forestry work as effectively as we possibly can, and ensuring that forest plantings are carried out and, more crucially, that the resulting forest thrives.
We want to plant more trees, shrubs, and crops to combat climate change and contribute to sustainable growth.

Partners

Our ambitions is for landowners and people who want to have a positive impact on the environment to be connected through our efforts, and for people to be able to invest in environmental projects that benefit us all.

Focus

We want to work with companies who, like us, want to do good – often these are entrepreneurial ones with a focus on novel ideas and businesses that can be said to have a ‘heart’. We are even able to help companies to view their planted trees if they want to, and we can also provide personalised updates on how the trees are developing.

We have identified three focus areas in our planting efforts: carbon dioxide sequestration, crops, and planting to ensure a supply of materials in the future.
